| Well, had a fun weekend Auto-X'ing the Z. Just got videos of some of my runs... the videos are in windows media format and are 7-8 megs each. The video camera mount in the car needs to sit about 2" higher, so the perspective on the road isn't the greatest... you can just see the tops of the cones. Hopefully I'll have it all sorted out by the next auto-x. It was raining both mornings, then cleared up a bit in the afternoon and the track started to dry. Unfortunately I was in the morning run group for both days. (doh!) Below is a video from Saturday, it was (barely) my best time even though I got really sideways about 10 seconds into it. I shifted to 2nd, and it came up on boost a little quicker than I was expecting, the rest explains itself. It's my first real autocross... but I wasn't doing too bad. Saturday, 4th run My times from saturday were: Run 1: 69.301 Run 2: 66.079 Run 3: 66.941 Run 4: 66.070 (the video above) All my runs were clean and consistent, those times were good enough to win my class - "Street Modified 2". Of course there were only 2 people in the class total, lol. The other guy was in a fully race-prepared supercharged '00 Cobra. (no, they didn't come stock with a supercharger that year) He just couldn't seem to put together a clean, fast run. His best was a 67.950, not including the cone penalty. On Sunday, we ran the course backwards.. I felt a little more comforatable and was figuring out how to rotate the car on the slick rain-soaked course. Here is a video from my 1st run, trying to go fairly quickly while figuring out the course: Sunday, 1st run My times for Sunday were: Run 1: 67.656 Run 2: 65.579 Run 3: 64.789 Run 4: 63.837 Pretty steady improvement, nobody else was running SM2 on Sunday so... didn't really have anything to compare the times with directly. They seemed like decent times in comparison to what some of the other cars were running. Here is a video of my 2nd run, it's quite a bit quicker than the first. Was taking a guy for a ride, he had fun! :) Getting MUCH better at rotating the car in the tight hairpins now. I did much better times in the later runs, see above, but didn't get video of it. (put the camera in the wife's WRX so she could get some footage) Sunday, 2nd run Here is a picture of my car after it was all done, a bit dirty but not too bad looking.
I must say, I REALLY like these tires. (Kumho Ecsta MX) The car was very well balanced, very neutral and controllable. I was running the shocks at 3/4 and it seemed about right for the wet track. Anyway, just thought I'd share. If anyone is thinking about taking their car to an autox, definately DO IT! It is quite a bit of fun. -Ryan
